PeopleMatters is an HR publication with a sizeable platform and CMS behind it. I ran their infra and DevOps for an extended stretch and consulted on the architectural decisions feeding into it.

What I owned

  • Infra and deployment shapes. Picked the deployment topology, configured environments, sized things sensibly, fixed what was wrong.
  • Routing, caching, and edge cases. Untangled internal routing issues, added caching where it was missing, chased down the kind of subtle production-only bugs that don’t show up until traffic does.
  • Database management. Day-to-day operational ownership, plus the longer-term tuning and migration work.

Architectural consulting

In parallel I worked alongside the team building the PeopleMatters platform and CMS, helping them choose between options, optimise hot paths, and avoid the architectural mistakes that get expensive later. Half of the value of the engagement was that consulting layer — being the person who could say “don’t do it that way, here’s why.”
